The gun is not the problem, it's the hand that uses it, in other words: humans.
I liked very much Anet's take on techno via the Asura. The concept art (see this thread) for EotN and the unborn shows the possibilities. Look at the chronomancer .

Gun's can't do anything but kill, and if you try to use them for anything else, theres something that does it better.
Chronomancer coukd've gone so wrong or so right.
if chronomancer had some skill like Grand Combat Haste, and it gave the entire party 33% attack speed and recharge
Or
Grand Magi Haste...that works off magic.
...that would be so wrong.

And axes can be used to do cooking may be? Yes you can't cut woods with a gun, but 1) unless Anet comes with a very original universe it's not going to happen in GW2; and 2) you can scare animals or hunt them.
The technology is NOT the problem, it's the human. Same problem on the net, technologies only over-power people, but the bad guys use pretty old tricks (social engineering). Tricks that have nothing to do with techno, but all to do with how human works.
We're going a bit off-topic here. Let's discuss Golems .

If you have such thing as golems now, would we have telephones after 250 years. And the new classes would be sniper, medic and assault? Not really, i like the idea that theres some technology, probably made by asuras (gnomes in wow ). But i also think that races of tyria dont really need technology as they have magic...

I wonder how you can jump from one (golem) to the other (phones), given that there's been no golem in real life?
Actually the dichotomy technology/magic is funny, because (as Arthur C. Clarke, a famous scifi author, said, see wikipedia for full details) in the end techno becomes so complicated that it is indistinguishable from magic. Many futuristic universes have "technomages" for a good reason .
(woohoo we're going into the philosophy stratosphere )

The Asura could develop an obscure mixture of Golemnacy, primitive tech and magic to create a new type of technology, such as magically imbued communication devices we'd know as radio-based headsets. Whether they'd share that technology is debatable.
Oh, and Big_Daddy, I'm female. Thought I'd let you know.

Well, it's not that I mean space ships and make another RF online or seomthing I just meant a little bit more... subtle than that. Little things here and there hinting at technology (things looking like, for example, the Clockwork Scythe) and maybe even guns, but I wasn't even thinking advanced guns.
Maybe to the point where you have them just wielding the very simplist of guns, like a style of guns that doesn't even look like the guns today. I don't know if you've seen it (I've had the misfortune to watch it twice) but there is a gay little anime movie called Castle in the Sky and in there they have a nice mix between not really magic, per say, but a fantasy style land and technology.
So not to make it out right "Star Trek meets Guild Wars" but just a subtle show of tech.

I don't know about guns, this isn't a sci-fi game. Technology would come in the form of golems maybe or teleportation.

Technology stayed nearly the same for over 400 years of human society. 250 is nothing to cry about.
As for seeing guns/modern clothing in GW2, that would halt me from buying it.

I would think there would be a way to explain away the lack of technological development in the dwindling of each race(especially humans) to the point of fighting for survival of the species as I believe is sort of what is meant to happen. Perhaps noone had time to develop new technoloy because they were too busy running around fighting and hiding etc.
Of course you could take the opposite argument and say war generally boosts technological development...
I also thnik it would be entirely possible that technology as we condsider in our real world would not develop in a world that had magic.
If you could all conjure flame in the palm of your hand, why would any of you invent a match?

There is already advanced technology in GW, after all how else could mesmer enchanter armor stay intact and not burn away when hit by searing flames or a Rodgorts invocation.
There is already gunpowder, so a form of cannon is a logical development(and only one small step away). Ofc the designers did'nt want guns of any sort so they made the GW races forget to be able to put 2 and 2.
Gw2 tech I think will be at the same level as now. for the reason stated a couple of posts above.

The more basic the better to me. I thought the Asura's technology was alright in that it wasn't too far advanced (combining magic with basic humaniod structures). I would rather see blades and magic like it already is, maybe with more magic lines than we have now.
Some things sound good then really suck when put into practice. One of the things I hate are the teleporters in Props desert. Why go through that everytime you want to jump from point A to point B. I usually just run around them. And I think the same thing would happen if you try to incorporate too much technology into the game. Things would become tedious eventually.
Don't even get me started on guns in GW2. That would blow it for me. If I wanted that type of weapon game I would play Battlefield.
K.I.S.S
Keep it simple stupid.
